Price cap up £60 a year from October
From 1 October the cap for a typical home paying by Direct Debit rises 4%, to £1,723 a year. Average electricity is 26.32p a unit, with VAT now removed, and 54.83p a day. Gas goes up about 8%. Rates vary a little by area. Take a meter reading on 1 October.

Evening export prices top 28p
On Octopus Agile Outgoing, power sent out between 4pm and 7pm in our area averaged nearly 21p a unit over the past two weeks, and peaked at 28.7p on 11 September. Midday averaged under 10p, below the flat 12p rate.

Solar output drops away from now
A typical 4kW system here makes about 3,500 units a year, but only 16% of that comes in from October to January. October is about half of June. So if your app looks gloomy soon, that is the season, not a fault.

Batteries go on 9 in 10 solar homes
MCS certified 36,000 home batteries in the first half of this year, nearly double the same period last year, and 92% of them went on homes with solar. Fitting the two together is now the normal way to do it, not the exception.
